This year, the number of applicants for studies in Latvian higher education institutions has been the largest in 8 years, news agency LETA said August 3.
According to the information of Latvija.lv joint application system, 10 296 unique applications have been received this year for studies in one of the 12 universities, of which 9226 have been approved.
The University of Latvia (LU) leads the pack, with 4510 applications already approved, while 18 044 applications have been received in total.
In LU, the most popular study programs were Law, Medicine, Psychology, Communication Studies, Business Leadership, and Primary School Teaching.
In the second place is Riga Technical University (RTU), where one of the study programs was selected and confirmed by 2216 people as their first priority. In total, the RTU received 11 352 applications for studies in all priorities.
In RTU, the most popular programs were Computer Science, Computer Systems, Information Technology, and Architecture.
The third most popular university is the Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU), which was selected and approved by 835 applicants as their first priority.
The admission to Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) takes place separately from the other 12 higher education institutions. RSU reached 2636 unique applications. The most popular study programs have been Physiotherapy, Midwife, Orthosis-Prosthetics, Psychology, Public Relations, and International Business.
